    • Coordinates activities involved with procuring and distributing goods and services, such as medical and non-medical supplies, equipment, and parts for the organization.
    • Establishes and administers policies and procedures for maintaining adequate inventories of needed supplies for organization operations.
    • Hires, schedules, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines Materials Management Department staff.
    • Reviews requisitions.
    • Manages vendor access and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
    • Recommends and/or selects products for purchase testing, observing and examining items and evaluating cost/benefit of various alternatives.
    • Estimates values according to knowledge of market.
    • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
    • Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
    • Reviews bid proposals in coordination with appropriate department manager(s) and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
    • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
    • Responsible for communication and follow-up regarding product safety, such as manufacture recalls and alerts.
    • Works with other department managers and administration to ensure that purchase and supply operations meet the needs of patient services and other areas and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
    • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
    • Coordinates with Accounts Payable to ensure good procurement and payment control measures are in place and maintained.
    • Accurately codes purchase orders to ensure accurate distribution of cost to appropriate departments and accounts for accounting purposes.
    • Coordinates and expedites the delivery of goods to users.
    • Arranges emergency transportation of medical supplies for pharmacy, lab and other departments as needed.
    • Maintains and administers inventory control systems, policies and procedures.
    • Coordinates and expedites repairs of various equipment as required.
    • Reviews, updates, and maintains pricing of supply items in the patient charge master.
    • Coordinates annual physical inventory process to ensure accuracy and timeliness of physical count.
    • Investigates, resolves inventory discrepancies and recommends/implements remedial action to prevent inventory discrepancies.
    • Performs other duties as requested by hospital leadership.



    • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.  High school graduate or GED and equivalent experience required.
    • Two years medical purchasing/buying experience.
    • Two years management experience.
    • Knowledge of computer inventory management systems and medical products.
    • Working knowledge of stocking and storing medical and non-medical supplies.
