    Responsibilities

    The Insurance Verification Specialist (IVS) will at times serve as the first person of contact prior to a patient’s arrival and serves as an important role in our hospital. The IVS courteously and professionally speak with insurance carriers to obtain patient benefits and any required notifications, pre-certifications, and/or pre-authorizations. This position is responsible for obtaining pre-certification/pre-authorization along with benefits for all outpatient surgeries, CTs, and other diagnostic outpatient procedures along with Inpatient admissions, direct admissions, and inpatient procedures. The position will work in harmony with clinical staff to ensure each patient is given the highest level of customer service and every staff member is treated with the utmost respect. The IVS will carry out their duties by adhering to the highest standard of ethical and moral conduct and fully support the mission, vision, and values of the company. This is a non-exempt position.

    Qualifications

    • At least one year of pre-cert experience, including obtaining benefits electronically and/or over the phone
    • High school diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred
    • Demonstrated knowledge of insurances
    • Excellent computer, multi-tasking and phone skills
    • The ability to work well under pressure (most of the paperwork is time sensitive)
    • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider preferred, must have complete within 60 days of hire
    • Must have a current card from an American Heart Association (AHA) recognized course. Note: exclusively online courses are not offered by the AHA.
    • Experience working in a hospital setting is preferred
    • Experience working with patient records and charts is preferred
    • Insurance verification experience and understanding of insurance plans is preferred, as well as obtaining pre-authorizations and pre-certifications
