    The unit secretary is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on the nursing units; coordinating work within the unit as well as with other units and departments; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries and requests from staff personnel, etc.


    Essential Job Functions 

    • Provides competent secretarial and clerical support for  assigned units and Program Director
    • Maintains accuracy of electronic medical record in regards to admits/discharges to ensure complete and accurate patient care.
    • Creates admission packets
    • Maintains patient charts
    • Transcribe medical orders
    • Communicates appropriately with patients, physicians, co-workers, staff and patient families.
    • Answers telephone and routes calls appropriately
    • Attends and records minutes at designated meetings
    • Order supplies for assigned unit
    • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures
    • Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the Code of Conduct
    • Conduct reflects the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct
    • Performs other duties as requested or required


    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • 1 year of secretarial or clerical experience in a hospital setting required; two years preferred.
    • National certification as Health Unit Coordinator, preferred.
    • Knowledge of medical terminlogy and diagnostic testing is preferred.
    • BLS for the Healthcare Provider, required. Must have a current card from an American Heart Association (AHA) recognized course.
    • Ability to work effectively with computer based charting and other clinical software programs.

    • Adaptability to change, organizational skills.  

    • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
